I have been working for the Alzheimers Society for four years, having worked with the elderly in various capacities for most of my working life.

My main focus is offering information and support to families, travelling the dementia journey. I run Seminars, Support Groups and give talks to community groups.

A large part of my role is to support and empower our Maori whanau.  I cover the area from Cape Reinga to the Hokianga

I joined Alzheimers Northland in April 2015. In my role as Community Advisor I provide support, education and information to families. This is/can be through visiting in the home, support groups for carers or daycentre for clients.

I have 10 years’ experience in Social Work with a particular passion for aged care.  I work 20 hours a week covering the Mid-Northland area of Kerikeri, Kaikohe, Paihia and Kawakawa. 

I joined Alzheimers Northland in 2011 as the General Manager and oversaw the move to our new building on Corks Road. We have an amazing team of Community Advisors who can come to you and work through the many challenges you may face with issues of memory loss.

I joined Alzheimer’s Society Northland in June 2017 and work as a Community Advisor in the Whangarei District. I provide information and support for those living with dementia and their whanau/caregivers. Along the journey, this may include information on the diagnosis process, lifestyle changes, driving, formal supports, day programmes, and respite and support groups.

I have spent the previous 4 years working within the disability sector as both a service coordinator and needs assessor, and in April 2017, I graduated with a MA in Health Psychology from Massey University.

I joined Alzheimers in June 2017.  In my role as Community Advisor, I offer information and support to families and Whanau through home visits and support groups in Waipu, Ruakaka, Mangawhai, Kaiwaka and Whangarei.

My background is in Nursing, having trained in Northland in 1980 and having had various roles in the health sector in the last 30 years.

I look forward to making a difference in people’s lives and assisting them to live life meaningfully for as long as possible, by offering support, information and education.

I have 25yrs experience in elderly care, 12 years of that with Alzheimers Northland working as a care assistant in the Day Program and the since 2015 as a community advisor.

I support and advise families and whanau through their journey with Dementia.  Giving them confidence to choose the right path for their loved ones.

I work in the Whangarei area providing information, home visits and support groups. 

I have been part of the ALZ team for since 2015, covering the Kaipara region.  My background in teaching and social work have equipped me well in my role of helping provide information, support and education to clients, carers, families and community groups. This CA role aligns with the aim of our organization, which is to help clients remain as active and independent as long as possible, and to walk beside those affected by all forms of dementia. It is our task, and my personal passion, to ensure that each individual is provided with every opportunity to enable quality of life through this often-difficult journey. 

Though this role as Community Advisor for Alzheimer’s Northland is relatively new to me, I had been eyeing up this role for more than six years since moving back home to Kerikeri to help look after my parents who were living at home, both with dementia.  Little did I know that their situation would fuel my interest and then passion to work with people and families who have dementia.  I also became a volunteer for Alzheimer’s Northland during this time, which helped cement my passion. 

I have worked as a Diversional Therapist at a local rest home and as a Teacher Aide at the local high school with the Special Needs kids.  My journey through dementia with my parents has taught me invaluable skills, experience and understanding of dementia and what families go through.  Dad always told us that we should learn to walk in the other person’s shoes to understand what they are going through; he was right!
