Wife’s website manages illness

MS sufferer Tim Preston wouldn’t have been able to deal with his illness if it wasn’t for his wife.

Rhonda Preston started website myreminder to help him cope with the damage the disease had done to his memory.

“Sometimes I think it’s better to have an arm or a leg off because then people see you have a disability and they help,” says Tim, who lives in Milford.

“Now I just put everything into the site. It’s become my daily routine.”

Tim was managing director of ASB Securities before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in March 2006.

It affected his cognitive functions to the point he had to retire in November that year. Giving up meant a “complete overhaul” in his lifestyle.

He went from a 60 to 70 hour a week job where he was called on to do media financial commentary to struggling to remember routine things.

When he forgot an important doctor’s appointment, Rhonda decided to come up with something to help.

The website’s address is http://www.myreminder.co.nz.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
