Van back in Whangarei
Published 01 April 2008, Posted in Northland / 2 CommentsWe now have a new accessible van available to organisations in Whangarei wishing to support disabled people to participate in activities within their communities.
The ASB Trust has provided funding to Tiaho to purchase another much needed accessible van which is to be based in Whangarei.
Before it was moved to Kaikohe the previous accessible Tiaho van was utilised extensively by the disability sector in Whangarei to enable disabled people to attend sporting events, powhiri’s, and camps etc .
The van has already been well used over the Christmas/New Year Period by Annie Wihongi and Reg Uzzell who went to Pouto on Northland’s west coast.
Support Worker Jan Cornell said that “We wouldn’t have been able to go to Pouto or do the activities we did and have a holiday without the Tiaho van”.
Having the van meant they could tour around and see the sites including visiting the local museum and going on a four wheel drive tour on the beach which Annie said “Was pretty exciting, it was fun”.
The van provides seating for the driver, two wheelchairs and four passengers.
If you would like to use the van, contact Tiaho Trust for information about eligability and bookings.

Sounds great!! If there are no wheelchairs used how many will the van seat?
Is there a cost for the use ..... how much?
It would be wonderful to be able to have one of our committee meetings out of town and give others a chance to join and meet their committee.
Thanks for your comment Maureen.
The Tiaho van has seating for the driver and four passengers. There is no charge for the hire of the van however there are criteria and responsibilities that need to be met when hiring it. That’s a great idea about giving your members out of town the opportunity to meet the committee.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to book the van.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
