R D A Ribbon Day

Published 22 October 2009, Posted in Northland

Nicholas_Thomas_with_his_first_place_ribbonOn the 27th September the Riding for Disabled Association (R. D. A) held its ribbon day and despite some very heavy rain we had twenty two riders and six horses and ponies take part.

Three of the events were of special Olympic standard.  This meant that riders could qualify and register for future special Olympic events. Kay from Special Olympics presented ribbons to 6th place.

A committee has been set up to liaise with special Olympics and coach those interested riders.  The equestrian judges were Jeni Claris and Hazel Squires along with Kay.

The events were Best Turned Out, Equitation, Obstacle course and barrel race.  Most riders won a minimum of four ribbons and during the lunch break we had a fancy dress event with prizes.

We would like to thank our judges, the RDA staff, families and wonderful volunteers for making this a very successful day. We will endeavor to make this an annual event as judging from our riders enthusiasm for this years Ribbon Day they are certainly keen for us to do so.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
