Parent to Parent Training

Published 29 January 2008, Posted in Northland Parent to Parent Training

Parent to Parent New Zealand has been supporting families who have a child with a disability, special need or health impairment for over 24 years. Through a network of regional groups and trained volunteer Support Parents, Parent to Parent provides information and emotional support to these families.

Our services and training courses are free to families.

IEP Seminars and workshops
Parent to Parent New Zealand are continuing to develop and deliver IEP (Individual Education Plan) support seminars.  We are now offering a practical workshop as well as our original IEP seminar.

Support Parent Training Course
We are always looking for new parents who are willing to take on the role of a Support Parent.  If you have first hand knowledge of what it is like living with a child with special needs then you are the expert who could provide the all important ear and friendly voice for others in the similar situation.

If you are interested in advocacy then this Support Parent Training is a prerequisite to the Advocacy Training course we are now offering.  You don’t need to be a Support Parent to be an Advocate, but to retain standards of service you need to attend and be accredited for this course

There should be a course near you, if not get in touch to find out which is the best for you to get involved with.  As the attached says some of these courses are subject to funding, others will have additional dates still to be set and there may be more.

As with all of our courses anyone interested needs to get in touch, either with us at National office or through the regional offices.

Comment from a previous participant:

“Not as daunting as it seems.  We had trainers who were easy to talk to and answered questions in an informative way. Parent to Parent New Zealand provides a service that helps families and it feels good to be able to help other parents in the same boat.”

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
