Our Stories wrap up.
Published 01 November 2008, Posted in Northland‘Our Stories’, an educational series of events held in Northland was one of the most successful of it’s kind in New Zealand.
Tiaho Trust was appointed Local Co-ordinator for the Our Stories project held in August/September in Whangarei and very proud to do so.
The project consisted of a two week photo exhibition at Reyburn House Art Gallery, educational workshops for schools, a launch evening, an employers evening, a sport and recreation evening and a film festival.
The project closed with the Film Fest evening showing DVD’s that some of the schools had put together working with local disabled people and guest speakers.
Year 7 and 8 students from Manaia View School and Aniwaniwa School developed a strong positive perception of disability by participating in the DVD compilation workshops.
The students worked with disabled individuals from their local community to produce DVD’s that portrayed a snapshot of their lives through the student,s eyes.
The project ended on a high note with the Our Stories Film Fest evening held on 3rd September at Forum North. The DVD’s were showcased to a packed house of over 160 people.
Eleanor Beggs wrote and performed a very moving song called ‘And I Love You’. Her song touched a lot of people that evening and continues to do so.
The video below is an audio tape only and contains an interview between Eleanor and Craig and Jacks on local radio station Classic Hits. Eleanor talks about her involvement with the ‘Our Stories’ project and we get to listen to her sing a song she wrote called ‘And I Love You’.
The ‘Our Stories’ project is touring New Zealand for two years and is currently in Wellington until 1st February 2009.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
