North Island Boccia Regionals Result

Published 27 August 2007, Posted in Northland North Island Boccia Regionals Result

The Northland Boccia Association hosted the North Island Regionals again this year at the Genesis Energy Kensington Stadium over the weekend of 4 & 5 August.

Twenty-six entries were received from throughout the North Island with three NZ representative players from Auckland and Hamilton taking part. Thirteen of these entries were from Northland based players who took out 4 of the 5 medals on offer.

Annie Wihongi played brilliantly on day 2 beating NZ representative Mandy Slade (Auckland) for the first time and winning her first competition medal, a silver. Annie was supported on court by her new ramp assistant Chris Youens and together they really showed some style.

Scott Burdett a former national champion in the Kiwi grade was back to winning form taking gold from current kiwi class national champions Chris Keay (silver) and Kimberley McLean (bronze). Linda Scott was fourth making the Kiwi Class finals an all Northland affair.

The next event on the Northland Boccia calendar is the Northland Champs taking place on Saturday, 8 Speptember at the Genesis Energy Kensington Stadium. This is open to anyone resident in Northland (disabled or able-bodied) or affiliated to Northland Boccia so is a golden opportunity for anyone interested to give the game a go at competition level.

Northland Boccia thanks all those who attended, competed and assisted with the tournament and our many valued sponsors and contributors

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
