The New Zealand Boccia 13th National Championships is to be held in Whangarei.

Northland Boccia is hosting players from Australia and teams from all over New Zealand for this year’s National Championships.

Spectators will be welcome and play will commence after an Opening Ceremony on Friday 23rd at 9am at the Kensington Stadium in Whangarei with competition carrying on through to Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9am to 5pm.

Boccia originates from a Greek ball tossing sport and is a cross between Petanque and indoor bowls.

The sport can be played at many different levels from socially up to Paralympic status. Boccia is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and is a full Paralympic Sport

All players must be classified, prior to competition and must use a wheelchair for play.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
