Great turn-out for Osteoarthritis Seminar

Published 23 April 2007, Posted in Northland

Whangarei had a very successful Arthritis New Zealand/Chrisco Osteoarthritis Seminar on Wed 18th March. As many of you will be aware it was the start of our dreadful weather which resulted in severe flooding around our region.

Considering the rain and wind we were delighted to have 130 people turn up to hear Keri Linklater from Sport Northland talk on the Green Prescription, the keynote speaker Dr Sunil Kumar Rheumatologist who visits Whangarei from Middlemore Hospital and Josie O’Sullivan who spoke on living with Osteoarthritis from a younger person’s perspective.
There was a wide age range represented and we also had health professionals attending. The only disappointment of the evening was the sound system which let us down and made it difficult for some of the attendees to hear the speakers. We had great support from our volunteers, manning the information table and serving the light supper. As always we are very grateful for their assistance. Coming up on Saturday 12th May, we have a meeting on Fibromyalgia. It will be at the YWCA,21 Rust Ave, Whangarei at 10am for about an hour and a half. The speaker is Dr Grant Thompson, Musculoskeletal Physician.

People who have this condition, friends, family and anyone who wishes to know more about this condition are very welcome.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
