Arthritis Orange Appeal Week

Published 22 September 2008, Posted in Northland / 1 Comment Arthritis Orange Appeal Week

This years Arthritis New Zealand National Appeal Day is on Friday 26 September 2008 and the Appeal Week runs until Friday 3 October 2008.

Join the team in Whangarei and support Arthritis New Zealand by taking part in this years Annual Orange Appeal. We will be marking the occasion with a National Street appeal where the funds raised will go towards providing services to people affected by Arthritis in Northland. If you are in a position to help with the street appeal we would love to hear from you.

Arthritis New Zealand’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of people affected by Arthritis. We do this in a variety of ways: education, public awareness, direct support, advocacy and the funding of research.

Did you know that more than half a million New Zealanders will be affected by arthritis in their lifetime? That’s one in every six people over the age of 15 years. There are over 140 different types of Arthritis and these can affect people of all ages – from babies and toddlers right through to those in their adult years.

Arthritis New Zealand is a national, voluntary organisation which represents the interests of those with arthritis.  We are an incorporated society with charitable status.

WHY WE FUNDRAISE
Every year it costs Arthritis New Zealand $5.7 million to provide essential services – of which the government funds our organisation approximately 12%. The balance of the budget is met through fundraising activities.

Funds are used to provide a variety of services to people with arthritis. These services encompass Arthritis Educators, who provide advice, self-management courses, seminars, assessment and referrals to other services as appropriate.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
Option One:
Volunteer to help our collectors on the street - either on the National Street Day or some time during the appeal week from 26 September to 3 October … an hour or two would be a great help.

Option Two:
Help us encourage your staff, colleagues and clients, to give generously to this years Arthritis Orange Appeal by putting a collection box in your staff room, or on your reception desk, for the week ... and we’ll do the rest.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
