2007 Northland Boccia Champs
Published 16 October 2007, Posted in NorthlandA Northland representative Team of seven boccia players competed in individual and pairs competition in Tauranga over the weekend of the 5th - 8th October and returned with a tally of 4 medals, 2 trophies and 2 fourth placings.
Michelle Batchelor has displayed absolute dominance in the Kiwi Grade this year by winning a third consecutive individual gold medal in three consecutive tournaments. Michelle also added a silver in the BC4/Kiwi Pairs and took out the Kiwi Class Champion trophy. Kimberley McLean followed her gold winning form from 2006 by taking gold in the BC4/Kiwi Pairs with Chris Keay winning bronze and 4th place going to Scott Burdett and Hannah Bloor. In the BC3 Pairs Annie Wihongi placed 4th. Northland Boccia’s international referee representative Carol Armstrong won the trophy for “Players Choice - Best Referee” (Andrew Phillips (BOI College) withdrew part way through the tournament due to ill health.)

Our congratulations are extended to Northland Boccia representatives Kathy Bingham and Chris Youens have been appointed to the Boccia NZ Committee for 2007/08. Northland has been awarded the 2008 North Island Champs with the 2008 NZ Nationals going to Parafed Canterbury (Christchurch - July). (Northland Boccia will be making an all out effort to secure the NZ Nationals for 2009.)

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
