This is an invitation for you to participate in the development of hospice services for local communities.

Hospice mid-north strives to provide the best possible palliative care for the sick or terminally ill in the place they choose to be.  We would like to know what kind of care you would like.  By sharing our knowledge and experinces, we will learn what is available and needed, and together explore how Hospice can provide personalised care.

A disabled Whangarei woman is shaken after having her bag stolen from her motorised wheelchair while she was in a main thoroughfare in broad daylight.

Kimberley McLean, 24, said she had never been afraid of making her way around town before but is now scared of being out on her own..

Charities Commission - Whangarei Forum

Between May and July this year, the Charities Commission will be hosting regional forums for charities. The forums are being held in collaboration with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA).

Topics covered will be: Profiling your charity, Internal disputes and Leading volunteers, leading organisations. There will also be one hour opt-in sessions in the afternoon covering Annual returns online, Internal disputes and Governance.

Be. Accessible is a brand, a framework for accessibility and a social change campaign with the vision to inspire and enable a 100% accessible society.

Through an integrated communications approach, it will inspire and inform New Zealanders of opportunities to provide better access to those of us who may be temporarily or permanently disabled or in need of additional support in order to contribute fully to society.

We are travelling around New Zealand to share our vision and invite you along to a one-hour interactive presentation followed by afternoon tea on Tuesday 5th July from 1pm to 3pm at the ARC Security Room, Toll Stadium, Okara Drive.

Outward Bound - Aspire Scholarship

The aim of the Aspire scholarship is to provide New Zealanders who have MS or arthritis with the opportunity to attend Aspire, an eight day low impact experience for people over 27 years.

Just like any other Outward Bound course you will experience activities like sailing, rock climbing, kayaking and high ropes. This is your opportunity to get outdoors and feel the exhilaration of achieving more than you thought possible.

Handmade paper in three dimensions: Exhibition by ‘The Papermil’ froml 10th to the 30th June at the Strand Arcade in the former ‘Blue Revolution’ shop.

Whangarei is well known for the number and quality of artists working in the area.  The artists at The Papermill may not be so well-known and some people even believe that the Papermill has closed down! Not so!

To put The Papermill’s artists back on the map they are holding this exhibition.

Chronically Fabulous

Chronically fabulous is a group for people aged between 20 - 40 years old (or close to) who have a chronic health condition.

This is an opportunity for people to come together, relax and be with other people who understand.  We meet on the first Friday of each month in the room at McDonalds on Bank Street from 4.30pm - 6pm.

Mobility Taxi services in Whangarei

Do they rock or do they suck?

Many people with disabilities in Whangarei require the services of a taxi company with a Mobility Van to take part in activities in their community.

Tiaho Trust would like to hear from people who use a mobility van to find out if the service is meeting their needs.

i.e. Do you get picked up on time?  Do you have to travel with others who have also booked the van, and does this make you late?  Can you book a van to take you out after 5pm?  How are you treated?
