Disappointing Paralympics coverage
Published September 16th 2008, Posted in NationalTiaho Trust has had a number of people raise the issue that the Paralympic Games are not recieving the coverage they deserve.
It is such a shame when our athletes are performing so well that we only get to hear and see them when they win medals or something extraordinary happens.

Congratulations Cameron!
Published September 15th 2008, Posted in Northland / 1 CommentSwimmer Cameron Leslie won gold in the 150m IM in record time at the Beijing Paralympics yesterday to secure New Zealand’s 12th medal.
The 18-year-old from Whangarei, who is studying communications in Auckland, said he was not expecting to be so dominant and attributed his medal to hard work at training.
“Bloody awesome. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I don’t really remember much of it. I’m very surprised.”

Relationship building with children was made easier by not having to fit mainstream fathering stereotypes, disabled dads and gay dads agreed in a panel discussion during Waitakere City’s Focus on Fathering Week last week.

Paralympics update
Published September 10th 2008, Posted in NationalNew Zealand won its third medal at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing with Wellington’s Kate Horan claiming the silver medal in the 200m final on day three of competition.
Horan, 33 looked to be out of the medals coming into the final 20 metres of the race, however the favourite and unbeaten runner of the past few years, April Holmes from the United States fell and took out the second placed runner Marie-Amelie Fur(France) as well.

The NZ Stroke Foundation urges New Zealanders to have a blood pressure test and reduce the risk of becoming a statistic of this country’s second single biggest killer and the leading cause of disability. Statistics show that thousands of kiwis are unknowingly suffering from undiagnosed high blood pressure - the single biggest risk factor for stroke.

Stroke Awareness Week

Paralympics - Day 1 review
Published September 08th 2008, Posted in NationalVisually impaired New Zealand track cyclist Jayne Parsons finished within two seconds of a medal on the opening day of the Paralympics in Beijing yesterday.
Parsons and pilot Annaliisa were fifth in the women’s 1km time trial, clocking one minute 14.048 seconds. It was 1.585sec outside the time that would have earned them bronze.
