Sex Selection discriminatory

A number or organisatons have lashed out at a Bioethics Council recommendation to government that parents undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) should be allowed to select the gender of their babies.

Mr Greally, Asperger’s Syndrome New Zealand Information Officer and Wendy Wicks, DPA policy researcher rejected the Bioethics Council’s claim that it had reflected the wishes of participants in their research.

The Catholic Bioethics Centre said that If introduced, the recommendations would make society less inclusive, marginalising society’s most vulnerable members—the unborn and disabled.

Parkinson’s NZ education grant

Parkinson’s New Zealand is offering an education grant of $6,000 for a Health Professional to attend the 6th International Congress on Mental Dysfunctions & other Non-Motor Features in Parkinson’s disease, Dresden, Germany, 16-19 October 2008.

Disabled leader creates change

Vanassa McGoldrick is well known in the disability sector in Northland. 

She has helped create a more accessible Whangarei by working with council on issues affecting the disability community including access issues at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre and establishing the ‘Disability Working Parking Permit’.
