Free Arthritis and Gout seminar
Published July 15th 2011, Posted in NorthlandArthritis NZ Northland are holding a free Arthritis and Gout seminar on Wednesday 20th July from 1pm at the Whangarei R.S.A at 9 Rust Ave.
This seminar is being delivered by arthritis NZ Educator and Registered Nurse Georgina Greville. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in New Zealand. If you have Arthritis or work with people with Arthritis you are invited to come along to this seminar where Georgina will talk about Arthritis including Gout; how to live a healthy life and reduce discomfort and prevent gout attacks by good management.

Into battle for the disabled

Making New Zealand more accessible for disabled people one city at a time - it’s all part of the master plan for Be.Accessible’s chief executive Minnie Baragwanath.
She was in Whangarei this week and met local representatives of the disabled community as part of her national tour of Rugby World Cup host cities.
After a presentation of Be.Accessible’s goals and initiatives, Ms Baragwanath officially certified two local people to make accessibility assessments of Whangarei businesses and organisations that will form part of a national database.

A disabled Whangarei woman is shaken after having her bag stolen from her motorised wheelchair while she was in a main thoroughfare in broad daylight.
Kimberley McLean, 24, said she had never been afraid of making her way around town before but is now scared of being out on her own..

Neurological Foundaiton’s Annual Appeal Week

The Neurological Foundation’s Annual Appeal week launches on Sunday with the comical TV ad campaign featuring neuroscientists washing cars to raise money. The reality of the campaign’s message however is very real and very serious; funding for brain research is needed more than ever to improve the outcomes for the growing number of New Zealanders being diagnosed with neurological disorders.

Charities Commission - Whangarei Forum

Since 2006, BP Vouchers for Volunteers has recognised these efforts by donating thousands of BP fuel vouchers to organisations that have volunteers working in our local ommunities. BP New Zealand recognises that the cost of running vehicles has a big impact on these community organisations, so we want to do our bit to help out.
