Sib Support NZ workshop Kaitaia
Published February 01st 2012, Posted in NorthlandOn March 17th Parent to Parent Northland are holding a Workshop in Kaitaia for children aged 8 to 18 who have a brother or sister with a health condition, disability or special/additional need.
This is a busy interactive day for siblings. Issues are discussed and feelings shared in a SibShop interspersed with team building games, theatre sports and lots of fun. The young people are supported by facilitators and leaders who also have brothers and sisters with special needs.

Free Legal Clinics

In 2012 we are pleased to offer FREE Legal clinics in Kaitaia, Kaikohe, Moerewa, Hikurangi, Dargaville, Ruakaka, Warkworth and a new clinic starting in Wellsford (this will be confirmed shortly).
Help spread the word about our FREE legal services and availability of our 0800 155 LAW (529) phone for communities outside of the Whangarei district (for people calling in the Whangarei district please call 437 7535). Please help us to help the people that truly need our assistance.

Manaia Health PHO workshop
Published January 19th 2012, Posted in NorthlandManaia Health PHO is holding a pre-Waitangi Day seminar which again focuses on Maori health and will be held at 6pm, Friday 3rd February at Forum North, Whangarei.
Speakers include Moana Jackson, who will discuss the impact of law on health, and Professor Innes Asher who will present on child rights and child health.
This session is open to general practitioners, practice nurses, iwi health providers, practice staff, pharmacists, midwives, physios and NGO staff.

Parafed Community Sports Advisor for Northland
Published January 16th 2012, Posted in NorthlandKia ora, my name is Leesa Andrewes and I am the new Parafed Community Sports Advisor for Northland. I have a Sport and Recreation degree from AUT and have worked in Sports Administration and Coaching over the past seven years.
Parafed Northland supports Paralympics NZ at a regional level. My position is supported by and based at Sport Northland Whangarei and Dargaville.
The Primary Purpose of my position is “To facilitate the development of Parafed Northland to be an organisation that caters for and supports people with physical and visual disabilities to be active in Sport and Recreation”.

Bike riders brave rough weather for fundraiser

Bad weather cancelled many events in Northland last weekend - the Mid Northern Rodeo, a family gala day at Ruakaka Beach and the miniature train rides in Maunu.
But heavy rain and gale force winds failed to deter motorcycle riders making a 275km charity run.
Forty bikes took part in the “Iron Horses” rally to help raise funds for Whangarei branch of Riding for the Disabled yesterday.

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
