Respite care for over 17 year olds

Many families of a child with a disability will be accessing out of home respite. You may be aware this respite is divided into “under 17yr old” or “over 17yr old” categories.
We have heard anecdotally from families that accessing quality and relatively local out of home respite for over 17yr olds can be difficult.

An accessible RWC in Whangarei
Published September 13th 2011, Posted in NorthlandTiaho Trust has been working closely with the Whangarei District Council and Enterprise Northland to help make RWC 2011 in Northland an event that everybody can access and enjoy.
To enable easy access to the two games in Whangarei for people with a disability, two Tiaho Trust accessible vans with wheelchair hoists will provide a shuttle service from the designated drop-off area on the new Porownini Avenue extension delivering them directly to the game. Many thanks to RWC volunteers Michael MacDonald and Scott McDonald who are helping to provide this service.

Healthy Hikurangi Health Expo
Published September 13th 2011, Posted in NorthlandThe Healthy Hikurangi project is running a Health Expo on Saturday the 8th October from 9am -12noon in the Hikurangi War Memorial Hall.
It is an opportunity for the community to link in with the many health and social service organisations that work within the Hikurangi community.
There will be educational stalls as well as nurses available for child immunisations.

Plan ahead to get to the games

Sib Support NZ Workshop

Minnie’s presentation on Be Accessibe was truly inspiring. disappointing to see those most in need of ‘enlightenment’ were absent….a great build up for the RWC and way beyond so up to those who did attend to be vocal! and spread the Be word!
